I can’t get this conversation out of my head. I had an impactful talk with my father-in-law right around the beginning of the nasty great-recession hit in 2008-2009. We were sitting in his living room, a short distance off the historic Route 66 in New Mexico, talking about business in general. I don’t have to tell you that recession hit a lot of people very hard. My father-in-law had been a very successful retail business owner by any and every business standard, although he would have been the first to argue with my assessment. Later on, he agreed that recession was like no other he had been through.
His simple comment during that talk motivated me to write this eBook for my small business, medium business, side-hustle business clients, and all entrepreneurs to spur creative thinking.
I remember his statement clear as day, “Bill, the game has changed!” That statement sounds so simple, so elementary, so basic that most of us would let the words just pass on by without much more than a smile and a “whatever” in our mind. But it has really stuck with me these past many years.

They are playing the same game under the old rules. This is a huge mistake!
